What’s New Under the Hood of the Porsche Macan?

August 23rd, 2018 by

The Porsche Macan is due for a bit of an upgrade soon, and the biggest changes are going to be to the engine. But what exactly does that entail? Let’s take a closer look.

One Big Change

The single biggest change that we’ve learned when it comes to upcoming versions of the Macan is that it is following the trend that all Porsche cars are—no longer offering a diesel option. According to Porsche, this sweeping change was brought about due to a growing “cultural shift” among Porsche customers. It may be hard to pin down exactly what that means, but don’t worry if you prefer a gas-powered Porsche. While the carmaker has pledged to increase its hybrid output, as of this writing, the Macan isn’t in the plans to get a hybrid variation just yet.

There are a variety of different engine changes being added as well as removed. One of the most dynamic examples is going to the mid-range Macan S. While it may still have a 3.0-liter V-6 engine, it’s not the same one as the past, instead, using the same one you can see powering the Porsche Panamera. Experts believe this will lead to more power overall. The Macan Turbo is also proving that big things come in small packages, moving to a smaller 2.9-liter capacity with more horsepower.
