Porsche is Just for Sports Cars, Right?
If a friend told you that he’s just bought a Porsche, it’s likely your mind will immediately associate this information with a sports car. You’ll probably picture your buddy pulling up at your house in a 911 or a Boxster in the near future.
The luxury brand has become synonymous with fantastic sports cars and for good reason – it has produced some of the most desirable models in the world. However, this is not the only type of car that the manufacturer puts together.
As SUVs and crossovers continue to take a larger slice of the automotive market, Porsche has taken some impressive steps here too.
Perhaps the most impressive vehicle for its price is the 2018 Porsche Macan. This is its entry-level compact crossover, which is slightly smaller than Cayenne but still packs a considerable punch.
Two engines are available in the 2018 Macan including a 2.0-liter turbo-four or a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V-6, depending on what trim you opt for.
You’ll get 20 miles per gallon in the city and 25 miles per gallon on the highway with the base model, dropping to 17 mph and 23 mpg with the V-6, while you’ll have 17.7 cubic feet of storage space in the trunk, rising to 53 cubic feet with the seats folded down.
As you’d expect from any luxury brand, the interior features are piled on heavy, especially in the higher-spec trims. You can expect a heated steering wheel, adaptive sport seats, heated and ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, an upmarket audio system from Bose or Burmester and a rear entertainment system.
What’s more, your driving experience can be improved via active air suspension, a unique torque vectoring system, sport exhaust system, and carbon ceramic brakes.
This is a brand name associated with class – and the Macan does the brand no disservice.
Sure, there are some brands that have a better reputation for creating SUVs, but that doesn’t mean you should overlook this car. This vehicle has enough power and smooth handling to match any rivals in a similar price range, even when off-roading.
Perhaps you never imagine you’d be powering a Porsche through your local dirt track, but this could be a reality if you invest in a Macan.
